Borgo Monachella has a truly singular history, linked to the name of the district in which it is located.
Rural Charm
In the Iblean countryside, the districts have always identified places, whose names often take inspiration from real stories and are handed down through popular tales linked to the places and rural tradition.
In fact, it is said that towards the end of the 19th century, a beautiful and wealthy young woman lived in this farmhouse with her family who, despite being continually pushed by her parents towards marriage, never wanted to get married because her desire was to become a nun.
Despite this, the young woman, feeling obliged not to leave the house where she lived with her elderly parents, never went to the convent and thus decided to become a “nun at home“.
Everyone in Ragusa nicknamed it “A Munachedda” (La Monachella) and since then this district took the name of Contrada Monachella, in memory of the young woman who lived within the walls of these blocks of flats, where Borgo Monachella stands today.
Borgo Monachella is an ancient and refined B&B surrounded by nature but a stone’s throw from Ragusa and Ragusa Ibla.
Our goal is to have our guests stay in the tranquility and charm of the Ragusa countryside, surrounded by our typical dry stone walls, offering an experience of peace and well-being.
Borgo Monachella is therefore the ideal place for those who want to take a break from hectic everyday life, without giving up all the comforts of a high-level structure. This context will take you into the past, to times that now seem distant, made of simplicity, quiet and peace.
